Digital technology and AI in our lives and at work: what are the opportunities, the risks and the social and societal dialogue?

Tirana / AL

Since 2000, the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA) has been running campaigns to promote healthy workplaces in the EU. The 2023-2025 campaign, entitled “Safe and healthy work in the digital age”, aims to promote cooperation for a safe and productive digital transformation of work. The project brings together representatives of workers' organisations to discuss the challenges arising from the use of digital technologies and artificial intelligence, with a focus on training and exchange at the European level.

The project will enable an assessment of the situation at national and European level, the development of criteria for action in line with workers' rights and European standards, and a reflection on the impact of crises on the economy, the world of work and social dialogue. The aim is to develop practical measures to enable young people and workers to contribute their perceptions and the meaning of their work in the context of digitalisation to the social dialogue.

The objectives of the EU-OSHA campaign include raising awareness of safety at work, increasing knowledge of technologies, understanding new digital risks, promoting proactive risk assessments and exchanging good practices. The project is based on sound research and a social dialogue that considers workers' search for meaning and the quality of human relations. In the face of the increasing individualisation of career paths and contractual forms, an adaptation of individual rights is necessary. Workers' organisations have a crucial role to play in discussing the transformation of the world of work and new forms of engagement.
