Computer sapiens sapiens: work in the digital age

(Trentino) / IT

The seminar aims to enhance participants' understanding of the latest developments in digital work, as well as the objectives and progress of EU-OSHA’s work. It will also address key labour-related topics in the digital world, equipping workers with a safe and informed approach to this often-unfamiliar domain. Key themes include artificial intelligence (AI), monitoring systems, digital platforms, smart working, and remote work.

The seminar will focus on the perspectives of the stakeholders involved, examining the advantages and disadvantages of digitalization to maximize its opportunities. While highlighting numerous benefits, such as improved work-life balance for workers, it will also address new challenges and risks to worker health and well-being. These often depend on how technologies are applied, managed, and regulated within the social, political, and economic trends of European countries.

The digitalization of work raises numerous uncertainties, particularly for those unfamiliar with the field and concerned about potential disruptions to their work environments. Increasingly polarized positions on the topic are emerging, both from certain governments and from significant segments of public opinion across borders. Finding common solutions through participatory processes of social dialogue represents a structured and effective way to address shared challenges. The seminar aims to provide the necessary tools to combat misinformation and address the risks inherent in this new digital world. Accurate information is a prerequisite for informed debate, enabling stakeholders to propose coherent, effective, and non-ideological actions on a topic of such strategic importance.
