The ageing of the European population is a major challenge for our society. In order to be prepared for the future, policy measures are required on a social, economic and financial level. However, with attention to a solidary society, synergy between generations, the fight against discrimination, social appreciation.
The panel discussion aims to highlight a number of concerns, issues, and proposals that should be the subject of social dialogue on the topic of this seminar.
By 2030, one in five Europeans will be 65 or older, which requires coordinated policies to ensure the well-being and dignity of older people and to safeguard their quality of life. The focus is on a Europe of solidarity that promotes the activation and participation of older people in society. Together with social partners and representatives of civil society, the demographic development in Europe and the effects of an ageing population will be analysed.
The focus is on existing European and national regulations for activation, participation, pension entitlements and employment opportunities for older people. A discussion will be initiated on initiatives and measures aimed at promoting the right to work, meaningful leisure activities and a fair retirement income.
The project should propose various directions and approaches that can be presented at both EU and member state level in the social dialogue. The activation and participation of older workers is a challenge in which it is the task of the social partners to adapt necessary regulations to ensure a fair income for older workers. In addition, the social dialogue should create a broader framework to improve working conditions for older people and strengthen their rights. This could lead to an expansion of existing regulations and adjustments in (labour) legislation and social security.
