EZA at the 113th International Labour Conference: Breakthrough for Platform Workers

ILO to negotiate binding international standards for platform workers

The European Center for Workers’ Questions (EZA) participated in the 113th International Labour Conference (ILC) of the International Labour Organization (ILO), which took place in Geneva from 3 to 14 June 2025. The conference brought together representatives of governments, employers, and workers from around the world to discuss pressing issues of global labour policy.

One of the most important developments of this year’s ILC was the historic decision to begin negotiations on binding international labour standards for platform workers. This marks the first global commitment to regulate digital labour platforms and extend international protections to millions of workers in the platform economy.

Alongside this central outcome on platform work, the ILC also addressed other important issues, such as occupational safety and health, the promotion of decent work, and the role of social dialogue. EZA took part in the discussions and underlined the importance of strengthening international labour standards to ensure fair working conditions for all.

By joining the global debate, EZA continues its commitment to defending workers’ rights in a changing labour market, especially in the face of digitalisation and new forms of work. The decision of the ILO to move forward on binding standards for platform workers is a milestone, and EZA will remain engaged in the process to ensure that workers’ voices are heard.
