The future of social dialogue in the EU under the second von der Leyen Commission 2024 - 2029 - CANCELLED

Podčetrtek / SI

The project aims to explore the implications of the new plan for Europe’s sustainable prosperity and competitiveness. The Commission's priorities seem to have shifted, raising concerns about the representation of workers' interests in policymaking.

The project will analyse the potential impact of this shift on the social dialogue framework, particularly considering the European Pillar of Social Rights. The Pillar outlines essential principles for fair labour practices and social protection, which are vital in safeguarding the workers’ rights. The absence of a specific focus on social issues may undermine these efforts and weaken the position of workers in negotiations with employers and governments.

Additionally, the project will address the alarming forecasts from major German corporations, such as Volkswagen and Audi, regarding factory closures and potential layoffs. These developments evoke significant concerns about job security and the future of employment for many workers across the EU. By investigating these trends, the project seeks to identify who will advocate for workers' interests and ensure that their voices are heard in the policymaking process. It will also consider Enrico Letta’s and Mario Draghi's reports.

The project aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the current state of social dialogue and propose actionable recommendations to strengthen the representation of workers in the European Commission's agenda. This will help mitigate fears regarding job security and promote a more equitable future for all workers in the EU.
