Regulatory options for the SME sector

Budapest / HU

The project aims to increase the competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and strengthen social dialogue. The issues and solutions discussed during the project should serve as a basis for future policy decisions and programmes to support SMEs. The event offers the opportunity to exchange best practices and identify common strategic goals.

A key objective of the project is to provide a comprehensive overview of the challenges and opportunities for SMEs and to bring together representatives of the sector with academic and political experts. By analysing the issues discussed and potential strategies, the aim is to create a solid basis for future policy measures to support SMEs in an increasingly complex economic environment.

The discussions should serve as a catalyst for innovation in policymaking so that SMEs can flourish while fair and productive labour practices are maintained. The project promotes the exchange of successful case studies and brings together stakeholders around common strategic objectives that advance economic and social priorities.

A significant problem in the SME sector is the lack of robust social dialogue, but this also highlights the potential that such a dialogue could offer. Social dialogue – consisting of discussions, negotiations and cooperation between employers, workers and their representatives – can address many challenges faced by workers in SMEs, such as unfavourable working conditions, low wages and inadequate health and safety standards. By promoting a culture of dialogue, SMEs could benefit from higher workforce satisfaction, better retention, increased productivity and improved harmony in the workplace, which is crucial for their long-term sustainability.
