Climate change and safety and health at work

Ružomberok / SK

This project aims to summarize the impacts of climate change on workers' health, safety, and performance, affected workplaces, and the range of methodological approaches used to assess this problem. It will also seek to identify the hazards and risks associated with climate change.

The seminar will address the following questions:

  • How should workers’ organizations respond to these potential hazards?

  • What information and tools are necessary to protect workers and ensure they can adapt to current and anticipated health and safety impacts?

  • How can occupational safety and health policies and risk assessments be integrated at all levels as a core component of climate change strategies?

  • How can workers be identified, protected, and prevented from facing new risks caused by rapid technological progress and digitization, including new work procedures and materials?

  • How can planning for a just transition based on continuous social dialogue and stakeholder engagement optimize social, economic, and employment impacts?

The project emphasizes the critical role of trade unions in addressing climate change challenges. By contributing to collective agreements and policy measures, trade unions can support workers’ adaptation to new risks and ensure their voices are heard in shaping climate strategies. The seminar highlights the need for unions to remain relevant and credible by actively engaging with climate change issues and fostering resilience through social dialogue.
