Beyond the crises: strong social dialogue for more effective protection of workers

Sofia / BG

The challenge for new EU policymakers is to build consensus to adapt the EU to today's dynamic working conditions. New financial and employment policies are expected to meet citizens' expectations, particularly in the fight against poverty, support for the economy/competitiveness and investment in quality jobs. Policymakers have the opportunity to put social issues at the centre of their agenda, while workers' organisations are calling for a renewed commitment by the EU to social dialogue and collective bargaining.

The project aims to strengthen the role of trade unions in a comprehensive framework that integrates climate, industrial, labour market and social policies. In times of economic, ecological and social crises, trade unions are to act as agents of change to safeguard workers' incomes and maintain living standards. The main objectives of the project are to promote a genuine social dialogue, improve the enforcement of labour rights and the quality of jobs, and share best practices among participants.

The project includes various events, such as panel discussions and round tables, to discuss the challenges and successes of social dialogue. It emphasises the need for a strong social dialogue culture to address the daily concerns of citizens and to strengthen the role of trade unions. Collective bargaining can reduce inequalities and promote productivity. The project aims to increase the negotiating capacity of trade unions and thus contribute to improving working conditions in the EU.
