The ecologic transition: work and the new job profiles in a sustainable economy

Between November 25th and 26th, 2022, in Milan, at the headquarters of the Lombardy Regional Council, an event organised by MCL / EFAL (Movimento Cristiano Lavoratori / Ente Nazionale per la Formazione e l'Addestramento dei Lavoratori) in collaboration with EZA and financed by the European Union took place on "The ecologic transition: work and the new job profiles in a sustainable economy" with the participation of 80 representatives of workers' organisations from Germany, Slovenia, France, Poland, Romania, Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, Malta, Greece, Spain, Albania, Italy, Portugal and Kosovo with guest Alban Sylafeta, who attended with a special invitation as a member of his organisation and as an expert on welfare and society in his country.

The seminar began with an introduction by Piergiorgio Sciacqua, Co-President of EZA, Antonio Di Matteo, MCL President, and Giorgio D'Antoni for EFAL, as well as greetings from representatives of the Lombardy region.

During these two days, many topics were discussed, starting with the National Recovery and Resilience Plan and the Green Revolution and Ecological Transition challenge to the new opportunities in the world of work, which will inevitably also bring new professions. Energy transition, circular economy and digitisation were other topics of the seminar. The second part of the seminar dealt with the changes that are revolutionising the labour market; in country comparisons, it became possible to understand how the different governments reacted and are reacting to the changes in the world of work. One example was the widespread use of intelligent working after the pandemic, prompting many companies to reconsider corporate spaces. Another novelty is the emergence of attempts to reduce weekly working hours. The seminar participants agreed that ecological change and sustainable thinking should not be neglected. The last subject area was the NextGenerationEU programme and in this context, the situation of young people in the labour market.
