From 14 to 16 September 2017 took place in Rogaška Slatin, Slovenia, a seminar about “Free movement of workers and fair social security systems: balancing the interests of mobile workers and host country workers for a fair labour market”, organized by ZD NSi (Združenje delavcev Nove Slovenije), with the support of EZA and of the European Union. The seminar was part of the EZA project-coordination about “Integrating migrants and refugees in the labour market – the role of workers’ organisations”.
Free movement of workers within the European Union is an integral part and key driver of the internal market which entails, among others, the right of workers of the Member States to accept offers of employment anywhere within the Union. Different levels of remuneration among the Member States make some offers of employment more attractive than others, but the social security systems of the Member States, which are diversely structured, may also in themselves attract workers to certain Member States.
In the seminar in Slovenia we spoke about the free movement of workers and Fair Social Security Systems. We discussed about social dumping, European Pillar of Social Rights, Slovenian and Croatian case study and reflected the perspectives of Posting Workers’ Directive.
