Labour shortages are a growing challenge in the Western Balkans and EU Candidate Countries, driven by migration, skills mismatches, and an insufficiently educated workforce. The seminar aims to address these issues by exploring solutions to make work more attractive, reduce outward migration, and better align education with labour market needs.
The following questions are in the focus of the seminar:
- What are the root causes of labour shortages in the Western Balkans and EU Candidate Countries, including migration and skills mismatches?
- What solutions to mitigate workforce and skills shortages are being used or introduced in other European countries and how successful are they? Can they also be applied to the Western Balkans countries?
- What strategies, such as better wages and flexibility, can make work more attractive and reduce outward migration?
- What roles do new forms of employment play in creating opportunities and shaping the future of work?
- How are the trade unions dealing with the issue of work shortage?
The seminar will explore how targeted reforms and strategies can address these challenges while improving conditions for workers. By examining best practices and approaches from EU Member States, the project aims to identify effective solutions to strengthen labour markets in the region.
